Vitex

You have probably heard of the herb Vitex which is also known as Vitex Agnus castus and Chaste Tree. Vitex has a long history of medicinal use and its claim to fame really is all to do with the female reproductive hormones. There are studies which have shown Vitex to indeed be considered effective at the very least through to completely effective.

A wonder herb when it comes to balancing female hormones, it is often used to help women during menopause and also for women having trouble conceiving. Although not a hormone or hormone producer in its own right, Vitex assists greatly in regulating menstrual cycles and ovulation by stimulating the pituitary gland, which in turn helps with the balance between estrogen and progesterone. Chaste Tree has even been known to help women with polycystic ovarian syndrome, uterine fibroids, and other conditions that require the taming of estrogen and the encouragement of progesterone.

There is some debate as to whether Vitex should be taken throughout your entire menstrual cycle but generally Vitex is taken until conception has occurred for women seeking to get pregnant and almost everyday for others who need relief from pms, headaches and other hormonal issues. Common menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, painful and irregular periods have all been know to improve too. There are suggestions that Vitex could also perform somewhat like a sedative and even provide anti-inflammatory relief.

Not famed for its instant results, this is one herb that requires some patience before expecting success. Persevering and giving this wonderful herb a chance to build its momentum is important, so be sure to allow somewhere around 16 weeks to decide if it’s helping you.

There are a number of excellent quality fertility and menopause herbal formulas that have been specifically combined to provide women with a chance at normalising their reproductive health. These formulas have provided relief for so many women and even assisted some in conceiving a baby. Vitex does have a wonderful name in regards to helping women and it’s well deserved.

Although not known for any major side effects, as always it is best to seek advice from your natural health care professional before undertaking any course of herbs or supplements.
